Using AI to talk to bats? 🦇 

AI is being used in more novel and interesting ways every day. Yesterday the BBC launched a story about bat researchers from Isreal who are using AI to decode speech from bats.

The researchers have a colony of bats that live in a foam-padded room. They are free to come and go as they please, but they always return to the room. Audio and video are continuously recorded in this room to capture bat “speech” and behavior. Researchers are, very manually, training the AI to understand bat sounds by labeling what the bats are doing in the video while the AI analyzes the audio.

They say this can help us understand the origins of human language and understand what the bats (or any animal) are communicating to each other.

Joe’s Takeaway: I can’t wait for this to turn into an app so I can talk to my dog!

Here’s a prompt you can try to write magical bedtime stories for your children

Here’s an example I tried:

Act as a children’s book author. Write a 5-minute story for children aged 4 and 6. The story is set in a castle. One of the characters is a football player that loves magic and is scared of animals. Another character is a dragon, who loves ice cream and is scared of sharks. There should be a moral of the story that teaches the lesson treat others as you wish to be treated.
